FALL IS HERE!,                              spotlight

Odds and Ends from Orion:
  • This Fall seems to be a mixed bag of events from good to bad.  One the Good Side - apple orchards, football and Halloween on the Bad Side - political television ads, colder weather and the economy.

  • A note on service updates - Sage publishes notes for each service update they release on what program or module they patched and what was fixed.  For example - the update notes might say - "The Cash Receipts Report now correctly prints check details when Print Invoice Detail is set to Summary".  It is important to review these notes to see if they might correct an issue you are having on your level.  Don't be afraid to call us and ask for help if you need more information.

  • For those on Level 4.1, Level 4.2 and Level 4.3.  Sage has been consistently releasing a new service update for 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3 on a monthly/bi-monthly basis.  Level 4.1 is on service update number 20, Level 4.2 is on service update number 20 (both of these are their Microsoft Vista compliant releases) and 4.3 is on service update number 4.  These updates are available to you as part of your Client Care subscription with Sage.  If you need help installing any of the service updates or have any questions, please give us a call.

Till next month,

THIS MONTH'S FUN FACT

October has National Squirrel Awareness Month:

Interesting Facts on Squirrels

There are over 365 species of squirrels in seven families. They include the tree squirrel, ground squirrel, and flying squirrel. Plus many squirrel-like mammals such as the gopher, ground hog and prairie dog.

Squirrels are the most active in late winter, when the mating season begins. The males will chase a females, as well as, chase off other suitors. This ritual of chasing, occurs through the trees at top speed. While they perform some of the most breathtaking acrobatics imaginable.

A squirrels teeth grow continuously. Their incisor's will grow six inches per year, but stay short due to the constant wear they receive.

A squirrel will break the shell of a nut with its teeth, then clean the nut by licking it or rubbing on its face before it is buried. This action applies a scent to the nut which helps the squirrel find it later, even under a foot of snow.

The sweat glands of a tree squirrel are located on their feet, between the foot pads and on their paws between the toes. When hot or excited a squirrel will leave wet tracks on a dry surface. This scent is also used to mark the trees in their territory.

The squirrel's erratic path while crossing a street is an attempt to confuse the oncoming vehicle... thereby causing it to change direction. This is obliviously the squirrels biggest, and often last mistake.

And last, the most famous squirrel is, of course, Rocky from the Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.

This month's Windows Tip :  Where has Scan Disk gone. (XP)

Scandisk is not a part of Windows XP - instead you get the improved CHKDSK. You can use the Error-checking tool to check for file system errors and bad sectors on your hard disk.

1: Open My Computer, and then select the local disk you want to check.
2: On the File menu, click Properties.
3: On the Tools tab, under Error-checking, click Check Now.
4: Under Check disk options, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box.
· All files must be closed for this process to run. If the volume is currently in use, a message box will appear prompting you to indicate whether or not you want to reschedule the disk checking for the next time you restart your system. Then, the next time you restart your system, disk checking will run. Your volume will not be available to perform other tasks while this process is running.
· If your volume is formatted as NTFS, Windows automatically logs all file transactions, replaces bad clusters, and stores copies of key information for all files on the NTFS volume.
