June 2008 Edition

Summertime,                              spotlight

Odds and Ends from Orion:
  • MAS90 and MAS200 Level 4.3 is shipping!  You may have already received your Level 4.3 disk set.  If not, you will get it soon (for those on a current software maintenance plan with Sage Software).  We will begin scheduling upgrades after the July 4th holiday weekend.
  • I did an article a few months back about Microsoft announcing June 30th as the end of new sales for their Windows XP operating system.  As a reminder, if you are looking for new PC hardware and you want the XP operating system, you should order by the end of the month (call me if you want a quote on any new Dell or HP systems).

  • For those on Level 4.1 and Level 4.2.  Sage has been consistently releasing a new service update for 4.1 and 4.2 on a monthly/bi-monthly basis.  Level 4.1 is on service update number 18 and Level 4.2 is on service update number 16 (both of these are their Microsoft Vista compliant releases).  These updates are available to you as part of your Client Care subscription with Sage.  If you need help installing any of the service updates or have any questions, please give us a call.

Till next month,

THIS MONTH'S FUN FACT

June is National Iced Tea Month

Facts about Iced Tea:

The tea plant, a bushy evergreen shrub that can grow to a height of 30 feet, is thought to be indigenous to a region covering Tibet, western China and northern India.

Tea contains a number of substances, including caffeine, essential oils, enzymes, tannins and phenolic compounds. It also contains potassium and magnesium. Tea (with no cream orsugar) has 2 or 3 calories per 6 ounces

In the early 1900's, Iced tea's popularity in the United States has led to an addition to standard flatware sets; the iced tea spoon is a teaspoon with a long handle, suitable for stirring sugar into glasses.

Sweet tea (a southern favorite), is tea brewed very strong with a large amount of sugar added while the tea is still hot. The mixture of sugar and tea is then diluted with water and served over ice and garnished with lemon.

The oldest printed recipe of sweet tea dates back to a community cookbook "Housekeeping in Old Virginia", by Marion Cabell Tyree, published in 1879.

Sweet tea is the common type in the South; elsewhere, unsweetened tea is the standard.

Barcoding                              spotlight

In the past few months, we have been getting more and more questions about adding barcoding to MAS90.

Orion has a great partnership with a company named Scanco from Ohio(www.scanco.com).  They are Sage Software's "Barcode Vendor of Choice" and have been providing integrated barcode solutions for MAS90 and MAS200 clients since 1992.

Scanco's barcode solutions range from simple data collection devices interfacing to MAS90 to a fully integrated RF Enterprise Edition to help you manage your warehouse.

Join Scanco and Orion for Step by Step Barcoding on June 26th at 10:30 A.M. This webinar will help you learn how to leverage barcode technology to grow your distribution business one step at a time.

IRS Business Provisions of the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008                       money

IRS increases deduction - so you can buy more Orion products and services!  (really, I 'm not fibbin, they did it just for our clients)

The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 contains two provisions that provide tax benefits for businesses. The first provision increases the limit up to which a business can expense property purchased and placed in service during its 2008 tax year. The second provision provides an additional 50 percent special depreciation allowance for property acquired and placed in service during calendar year 2008.

This month's Windows Tip :  Easy Expansion (Windows XP)

When you work with Windows Explorer, you frequently need to expand and collapse the folders. You can do this with the mouse, of course, but this isn't the only way. You can use keyboard shortcuts to expand and collapse folders and subfolders in Windows Explorer.

In a recent tip, we suggested using the asterisk, plus, and minus keys on the numeric keypad to expand and collapse folders and subfolders in Windows Explorer. An even easier way is to use the arrow keys adjacent to the numeric keypad. Use the right arrow to expand and the left arrow to collapse the selected folder.

Using this method allows you to move up, down, and expand or collapse the folders without moving your hands across the keyboard to do all four of these functions.
