STELLAR TIMES
A monthly newsletter from Orion Business & Accounting Solutions

February 2008 Edition

Back from the Dread,                              spotlight

Odds and Ends from Orion:
  • For the constant reader of these newsletters, first of all, let me say that I am sorry to have skipped the last 2 months.  Our December and January was so busy that having time to do the newsletter was very difficult.  No excuse, but I will try harder to get the newsletter out once a month.
  • Back from the Dread of Winter - which is the winter cold & flu season.  Yes, it visited our office as well.
  • For those on Level 4.1 and Level 4.2.  Sage has been consistently releasing a new service update for 4.1 and 4.2 on a monthly/bi-monthly basis.  Level 4.1 is on service update number 17 and Level 4.2 is on service update number 12 (both of these are their Microsoft Vista compliant releases).  These updates are available to you as part of your Client Care subscription with Sage.  If you need help installing any of the service updates or have any questions, please give us a call.

Till next month,

THIS MONTH'S FUN FACT

 February has Hoodie Hoo Day

Feb 20th is Northern Hemisphere Hoodie-Hoo-Day --At high noon (local time) citizens are asked to go outdoors and yell "Hoodie-Hoo" to chase winter and make ready
for spring, one
month from now.

Really, I know what you are thinking but I'm not making this up.
Here is the link
Hoodie-Hoo

Another reason to go outside and act crazy is Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), the winter blues, the winter blahs, cabin fever, whatever you choose to call it, is a form of depression. Many sufferers show symptoms that include an inability to sleep, sadness, increased anxiety, a lack of sexual desire, cravings for sweets, and extreme fatigue-all of which seem to disappear during the spring and summer
months.  Seasonal mood variations are believed to be related to light, connections between human mood, as well as energy levels, and the seasons are well-documented, even in healthy individuals. Most SAD sufferers can usually improve their mood by exercise and increased outdoor activity, particularly on sunny days, resulting in increased solar exposure.

Microsoft Vista News                              spotlight

Microsoft announced the February 4th release of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) to manufacturing.

Facts about Vista
• Windows Vista has become the fastest selling operating system in history with over 100 million licenses sold and counting.
• Microsoft, together with our ecosystem, has made great progress improving the overall quality and performance of Windows Vista.
• Today, customers have 10 times the number of Certified for Windows Vista Applications to choose from (from 254 at launch to over 2500 today). 98 out of 100 of the top selling applications as of December 2007 are compatible with Windows Vista. Over 150 enterprise applications, including antivirus and VPN software, have been updated to work with Windows Vista.
• 78,000 devices and components are supported by drivers on Windows Update and in Windows Vista, up from 34,000 in November 2006.

A number of processes will start in order to deliver Windows Vista SP1 to customers:
• OEM partners will begin producing PCs with Windows Vista SP1 pre-installed.
• Microsoft will begin producing full packaged product (FPP) of Windows Vista that integrates SP1. These should start appearing in April
• begin manufacturing disks with Windows Vista SP1 for our enterprise customers that get our software via Volume Licensing. Enterprise customers should start receiving these in early March.
• In mid-march, Microsoft will make Windows Vista SP1 available for download via Windows Update and the download center on Microsoft.com.
• In mid-April, Microsoft will begin delivering Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Vista customers using the automatic download capability of Windows Update. This means that we will begin automatic downloads of SP1 for customers who have chosen to have updates downloaded automatically.

This month's Windows Tip :  Lock It Up (Windows XP)

Some users don't know that they can easily prevent others from accessing their Windows computer. If you need to leave your desk for a while, just press Ctrl-Alt-Delete. When the Windows XP Security dialog box opens, click Lock Workstation. No one can access your workstation without a password. When you get back to your desk, just press Ctrl-Alt-Delete, type your password, and press Enter to get back to work.
